5 questions for Diāna Lauska

1. What are you?

I am a person who is drawn to personal and professional improvement - I am a person who has concluded throughout her life, with surprise, joy and sometimes with concern, that what I was sure of, has now changed, and what I did not understand, has now and like a surprise, become clear and necessary.

2. A book that you would recommend others to read – why?

Andris Kalnozols’ Kalendārs mani sauc [The Calendar is Calling Me] - this is definitely one of the best works of Latvian prose in recent years. It is a great drifting of the mind into fantasy, a decluttering from professional or everyday thoughts, freeing a space for creativity.

3. TEDx talk, which you recommend watching – why?

One of my favorite talks is Tim Urban’s Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator.  Using light irony, Tim talks about the human - deferral instinct, saying that you should not let it gnaw at you too much. You should bear in mind the fact that there are only a certain number of weeks in a person's life, and a large proportion of them have already passed. Therefore, if you want something, mobilize and focus on achieving it.

The desire of a team to defer something is also very typical in a project. This is one of the risks in a project and working with people is the critically important thing in the success of a project.

4. What inspires you and gives you energy?

Nature, those close to me, sport and literature.

5. Why are you interested in project management?

Project management interests me because it is a way to clearly realize big things - the greatest changes at a company are a project. The establishment of a business is also a project. It is a wonderful feeling to take part in such important things! Work within a project team also provides energy, a positive forward stimulus and the feeling of achievement. It is creative, challenging and technical!

I know the importance of these competencies, which is why I am also very happy about the opportunity to pass these on to others. I get great satisfaction that these competencies are useful for someone in their project management.
